Russian fertiliser producer Acron Group announced that last year, it had supplied more than 100,000 tonnes of liquid fertilisers in Argentina.

Out of the fertilisers supplied in the country, urea-ammonium nitrate (UAN) was the major fertiliser. Claimed to be a highly effective fertiliser, it is used by local farmersin the production of corn and wheat.

In order to directly sell fertilisers in the Argentinean market, Acron established Acron Argentina, as a local distribution company.

The first ship carrying UAN reached Argentina last May. Later on, to expand its liquid fertiliser portfolio and complement UAN with sulphur, an important macronutrient for growers in the country, the company started supplying ammonium thiosulfate solution (ATS).

Acron leased storage facilities to support the direct sales in Argentina

In order to support the direct sale of liquid fertilisers, Acronhad also leased storage facilities with total capacity of about 50,000 tonnes across strategically located ports such as San Martin and Zarate.

The company also claims to have hired a team with experience in selling fertilisers in the country to support its sales efforts.

Acron Group overseas vice president Dmitry Khabrat said: “We continue to expand our strategic business geography, developing the distribution segment where we see potential for market growth and where our presence can provide additional benefits to customers. Acron’s UAN is already in great demand in the agricultural sector in Argentina. However, buyers had limited access to the global UAN market due to poor infrastructure. We have managed to solve this issue.

“We use the storage facilities to maintain UAN inventories and ship supplies to growers as needed, even as little as a single truckload. We expect our share of the country’s liquid fertiliser market to reach 20% in the near future. Next year, we plan to start selling dry fertilisers to Argentina.”

Acron Group has chemical production facilities in Veliky Novgorod (Acron) and the Smolensk region (Dorogobuzh) in Russia.

The company owns and operates a phosphate mine in Murmansk region (North-Western Phosphorous Company, NWPC) and has a potash development project in Perm Krai (Verkhnekamsk Potash Company, VPC).
