Agricultural equipment manufacturer Agco has completed the expansion of its Edgewood, Maryland assembly and distribution facility to produce Fendt tractors and Massey Ferguson compact and utility tractors and equipment (CUE).

The Edgewood facility also includes a training centre to provide dealers in the region a highly cost-effective, time-efficient location for product and service training.

AGCO aftersales, customer support & distribution development vice president Bill Hurley said: “Our investment in the Edgewood facility is one of the strategic initiatives to support the growth of the North American Fendt dealer network, which has more than doubled in the past year.”

“The expansion also provides the space and storage needed to assemble and maintain inventory of the fastest-selling products, which ultimately will reduce delivery times to dealers and get our Massey Ferguson compact and utility products into the hands of retail customers quickly, if not immediately.”

The new facility is ideally located to receive tractor parts from Fendt and Massey Ferguson factories

Located 27 miles from the Port of Baltimore, the Edgewood facility is the place where Massey Ferguson and Fendt tractors are received from their respective factories. Agco opened the location in 2008 and started updating the facility in July 2017. Now it has 70% more under-roof storage and several enhancements.

The expansion also includes automated tire-handling equipment to eliminate manual lifting and tire installation, making the assembly process faster, while reducing the risk of employee injuries.

Agco has also introduced paperless order tracking through assembly, quality control and shipping for improving efficiencies, allowing the orders to be filled and shipped to dealers more quickly.

With the increase in demand for its products and more dealerships offering Fendt tractors, the expanded and remodelled training centre is expected to be very much useful for training product specialists, service technicians and other dealer personnel on the latest product improvements and operating procedures.

Earlier this month, Agco’s brand Fendt had introduced the Fendt Cargo T955 telehandler to its full-line product range. The telehandler is claimed to be tough and has a unique lifting cab.

It can lift 5.5 tons of load to a height of 8.5m, making it an ideal machine to meet the most demands in loading work.
