Cargill has opened a new nutrition supplement manufacturing facility for dairy cattle in the Indian state of Maharashtra.

Located in Kurkumbh, the new high-pressure hydrogenation plant will engage in the manufacturing of bypass fat, a health and nutrition supplement for dairy cattle.

The bypass fat, which is already available in developed dairy cattle markets across the world, will be produced at Cargill’s new bio-industrial plant in Kurkumbh to supply for dairy farmers and feed manufacturers in India.

Cargill to market bypass fat under global brand Carfe

The company will launch and market the bypass fat under the global brand Carfe, which is said to be a technologically advanced product that helps in better digestion and delivering more energy to the cattle.

Developed with an investment of $15m, the bio-industrial facility holds an annual capacity of 35000 tonnes, making it one of the major facilities to produce bypass fats and speciality waxes in the country.

Cargill’s facility will also involve in the manufacturing of speciality vegetable oil-based waxes for industrial applications. This product will be marketed under the brand name Agri-Pure, which can be used in tyre, plastic and candle applications.

Cargill’s bio-industrial business manufactures sustainable bio-based products such as distilled fatty acids for use in the paints, inks and coatings industry in India.

In 2019, the company established a plant in Maharashtra at the same location to produce FR3, a natural ester dielectric fluid used in transformers.

Cargill India bio-industrial regional director Keerthy Pethaiyan said: “This launch is in line with our ambitions of continuing to remain the leading supplier and trusted partners for feed millers and farmers in the country.

“Our long-term experience in bypass fats and speciality waxes, combined with our local insights and this investment will go a long way in demonstrating our commitment to the country, in keeping with our organisational goal of nourishing the world.”

In India, Cargill commenced operations in 1987. The company manages different businesses in India, including refined oils, food ingredients, grain and oilseeds, cotton, animal nutrition, bio-industrial and trade structured finance.

Cargill’s animal nutrition business offers feed, premix, additive and animal health products and solutions for aqua, dairy and poultry.

In May this year, Cargill collaborated with World Resources Institute (WRI) for developing and improving tools to advance sustainable agriculture and business operations.
