Premier Crop Insurance has announced a partnership with Farmers Edge, a Canada-based digital agriculture services provider, to provide improved services using a risk management platform, FarmCommand.

Under the partnership, Farmers Edge will also provide digital tools to simplify claims, automate acreage reporting, and match growers with the right mitigation plan.

Premier Crop Insurance is an insurance agency that operates in 10 states across the Midwest and Southeast in the US, offering  insurance services for growers specializing in broadacre crops such as corn, cotton, rice, soybeans, and wheat.

The partnership will enable the insurance company to scale up its business model with a turn-key farm data management solution such as FarmCommand to enhance its digital connectivity with farmers.

Farmers Edge CEO and co-founder Wade Barnes said: “Our partnership with Premier Crop Insurance is a further testament to the growing power data has on the future of the entire agricultural ecosystem.

“By offering a full scope of business intelligence capabilities to growers, Premier agents will differentiate themselves from competitors and even introduce opportunities to growers who previously had no access to custom insurance products. It’s a win-win scenario for everyone.”

The platform will offer visibility to the current and predicted stages of crops, disease and pests, severe weather forecasting and crop health change detection on field-by-field or zone-by-zone basis, for farmers who wish to share their data with Premier Crop Insurance.

With FarmCommond, Premier Crop can enable automatic claim prediction and estimation

Claimed to be a time-saving technology, the FarmCommand platform can enable automatic claim prediction, notification of claims and claim estimation.

Furthermore, the platform also includes an on-farm infrastructure to eliminate the need for manual data entry. It also provides data sets to improve planted acre verification and production reporting.

Premier Crop Insurance president Scott Walker said: “Premier Crop Insurance has a grower-first approach to business, and we found a kindred spirit in Farmers Edge that made this partnership a natural fit.

“Working with Farmers Edge gives us a simple solution to establish season-long engagement with our growers and make it easy for them to share data with us—accurately, timely, and efficiently—so we can extract value from that data and enhance our business model to provide tailored products and support.”

Established in 2005, Farmers Edge is a major player in digital agriculture, offering   advanced solutions that are powered by a combination of field-centric data, artificial intelligence and complete integration.
