Gotham Greens has opened a new 100,000ft² hydroponic greenhouse at Baltimore in the US state of Maryland.

The company has reimagined a portion of the former Bethlehem steel mill, situated in Sparrows Point, to build its seventh greenhouse in the country.

The company’s greenhouse will supply fresh produce to retail, restaurant and foodservice customers across 10 states throughout the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast regions.

Gotham’s greenhouse will involve in the production of over six million heads of lettuce per annum. It helps to expand the company’s annual production to over 30 million heads of lettuce across the nation.

The greenhouse also produces regional popular product Chesapeake Crunch, influenced by the Chesapeake Bay watershed, which enables to protect drinking water for local residents.

The firm’s produce is grown with the support hydroponic systems in 100% renewable electricity-powered greenhouses, which are claimed to use 95% less water and 97% less land than conventional farming.

Gotham’s new greenhouse includes advanced technological features, comprising of data-driven control tools to develop the highest-yielding and energy efficient indoor farming system.

Gotham Greens, which is creating 60 full-time green jobs in Baltimore, has collaborated with the Baltimore County Department of Economic and Workforce Development and the Center for Urban Families to oversee hiring events.

Gotham Greens, an indoor agriculture and a major produce and fresh food company, which grows and markets leafy greens and herbs. It also sells fresh salad dressings and pesto sauces to retail, restaurant and foodservice customers across the country.

In December 2019, Gotham Greens inaugurated its newest greenhouse in Providence, Rhode Island, to expand its footprint in New England region.
