Australian crop protection and specialty seed company Nufarm has signed a cooperation agreement with German ag-tech startup CROP.ZONE to provide alternative weed control solutions.

The partnership intends to introduce Nufarm’s and CROP.ZONE’s hybrid herbicide solutions across major European markets.

CROP.ZONE partner and CEO Dirk Vandenhirtz said: “We are delighted to have found a strategic partner in Nufarm, which has more than 100 years of experience in crop protection and has a grown relationship with a strong network of distributors across Europe.”

Initially, the companies will implement an early adopters programme for the 2021 season in the Benelux countries and Germany.

Both firms combine chemical and physical processes to provide a sustainable method for weed control

The patented solutions are said to complement existing synthetic herbicides, in addition to serving as sustainable alternative for weed management.

Nufarm and CROP.ZONE incorporate chemical and physical processes to design a sustainable method for weed control.

Weeds can be efficiently controlled with lower energy consumption than conventional weeding technologies by pre-treating plants with an organic regulated conductive liquid and sequentially applying electrical charge.

The companies will provide an advanced solution to the farmers in Germany and Benelux in 2021.

Nufarm EuMEA regional general manager Hildo Brilleman said: “For us as herbicide specialists, this new technology, with its broad mode of action, is an exciting innovation in crop protection that will help to make agriculture more sustainable.”

In October 2019, Nufarm has opened a new crop protection manufacturing facility in Greenville, Mississippi in the U.S.

Founded in 2019, CROP.ZONE provides electrophysical solutions to eliminate weeds and manage pre-harvest desiccation.
